Prolactin inhibitors Cabergoline are used to treat hyperprolactinemia

Cabergoline belongs to a category of medications known as prolactin inhibitors. Prolactin inhibitors such as cabergoline are used to treat different types of medical troubles that occur when too much prolactin, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. An excess production of prolactin can result in menstrual problems in women and fertility problems in men and women.

It stops the brain from making and releasing prolactin from the pituitary gland. It is also used to prevent the onset of normal lactation (milk production) in cases where there is a medical need to prevent lactation.

Precautions :

• have poor circulation of fingers and toes (e.g. Raynaud’s syndrome)

• changes in vision

• difficulty in concentrating

• dizziness or fainting when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position

• loss of appetite

• pathological gambling and increased sex drive (libido, hypersexuality)

• shortness of breath, persistent cough or chest pain

• swelling of hands, ankles, feet, or lower legs

• unusually fast heartbeat

• vertigo (a feeling of whirling or movement of yourself or your surroundings)
• weight gain or loss

Storage :

Store at room temperature between 15 to 30oc. Protect from heat, light and moisture. Keep away from reach of children.
